Roofing in Daphne, on the Eastern Shore

Daphne gets more rain and more wind than Mobile when a storm comes up the bay: Sally dropped 12.58 inches here against 5 in the city. The subdivisions off 181 are re-roofing, Lake Forest's roofs are 40 years old, and the Baldwin County grant window opens on its own day each quarter.

Daphne is the largest city on the Eastern Shore, on the bluff across Mobile Bay from the city, and it has grown from a bayside village into a city of subdivisions along Highway 181 and County Roads 64 and 13, with Lake Forest, one of the biggest neighborhoods in the state, built from the 1970s on and now on its second and third roofs. Hurricanes treat the Eastern Shore differently from Mobile: Sally came ashore at Gulf Shores and crawled north at 3 mph, dropping 12.58 inches on Daphne against 5.17 in the city, with Fairhope's airport gusting to 62 mph, and the Isaias forecast gave central Baldwin County gusts to 65 and 3 to 6 inches of rain against 55 and 1 to 3 for Mobile. Bayfront houses on the bluff take the full west wind off the water.

Baldwin County is the other half of the Strengthen Alabama Homes program, with its own quarterly application days (January 8, April 9, July 9 and October 8 in 2026, two days after Mobile's), and Daphne primary residences qualify for up to $10,000 toward a FORTIFIED Roof. We build every Daphne replacement to the standard, schedule the evaluator, and time the job to the Baldwin window when the roof can wait. Along the bluff and Bayfront Park we install Galvalume standing seam for the wind and the salt; in Lake Forest and the 181 subdivisions it's mostly Class H shingles built FORTIFIED, with ridge venting and 6-inch gutters for the pine straw. Permits go through the City of Daphne inside the limits and Baldwin County outside, and we pull whichever applies. See FORTIFIED roof and the grant.

Questions from Daphne homeowners

When does the Baldwin County grant open?

Quarterly, on its own day: in 2026 January 8, April 9, July 9 and October 8, two days after each Mobile County opening. Windows fill fast. We'll tell you the next date and help you apply.

Why did Daphne get so much more rain than Mobile in Sally?

Sally's center crawled up the Baldwin side of the bay at 3 mph, so the Eastern Shore sat under the heaviest bands for a day: 12.58 inches in Daphne, 12.44 in Fairhope, 10.50 in Spanish Fort, against 5.17 in Mobile. Eastern Shore roofs and gutters need to be sized for that.

My Lake Forest roof is 20 years old. Repair or replace?

A free inspection answers it. Most 20-year-old Lake Forest roofs have a few years left with a boot and a flashing repair; the ones with brittle, curling shingles are better replaced FORTIFIED with the grant.

Do you cross the bay for repairs?

Every day. Daphne, Fairhope and Spanish Fort are on the regular schedule and the storm priority list, not an afterthought.
